WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS

ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS

A love story is never complete without photos

On your wedding day, we do a lot to ensure that our clients feel comfortable with us (after all, you’ll probably spend more time with your photographers than with your significant other). If you want, we’ll walk you through the venue, chat over drinks and get to know your vision, or walk you through the process over the phone.

An Oahu engagement photographers session is the best way to get to know your wedding photographers well before the big day. They will be able to help you with so much more than just planning your big day! Photos are memories that you will want to keep forever. We firmly believe you can never take too many.

01. Before your wedding day, get along well with your photographer.

A key aspect of an engagement session is making you and your partner feel at ease with taking photos and having a photographer around. Our clients usually describe themselves as awkward in front of a camera, so learning how to break down those initial barriers to filming is clearly helpful (none of our clients was in fact awkward at all)! When we tell you to make out or be silly, you won’t feel embarrassed. In this way, on your special day, we will only be able to take photos of genuine moments!

02. Have a fun day and learn about how we work

As each photographer is unique, a wedding engagement shoot is a good opportunity for a trial run. Performing engagement shoots is a great way to solidify either direction you’re going in. (We did two with photographers we didn’t end up choosing.) You’ll likely be spending most of your wedding day with your photographer, so get to know them while you’re doing your engagement shoot! In addition to getting a look at their best photos, you will have the opportunity to find out if you actually like their style. You may get a chance to see what their workflow is like-if you get the shots you want, and do you like the style? And if your gallery is timely and professional? Do you have easy communication?

03. Display your engagement photos at the wedding

The most common reason for having an engagement shoot is to send out save-the-date cards. If you want your save-the-dates to stand out, having professional photos taken is the way to go. Booking well in advance will ensure that you get your pictures in time (which basically means this should be done as soon as you get engaged)! We’ve seen clients use their engagement pictures as decorations, guestbooks, or signs at their weddings. The possibilities are endless!

04. You and your photographer will learn about each other – the serious stuff, the silly stuff, and everything that makes you two special

The photographer will gain an understanding of you both through an engagement shoot and can then adapt their style to whatever suits the two of you. Your photographer will have ample time to work on poses and candid interactions that showcase you together during an engagement session.
